Poem of the Day: “Winter Weary Palm Trees” by Lauren McBride, Frequent Contributor and Poet of the Week

Songs of Eretz Poetry Review is pleased to present “Winter Weary Palm Trees” by Lauren McBride, a Songs of Eretz Frequent Contributor and this week's Poet of the Week.  A biography of Mrs. McBride may be found in the “About Our Editor & Frequent Contributors” section.

Winter Weary Palm Trees
Lauren McBride

Following a southern freeze
some winter weary Queen palm trees
still cast their graceful shadows down,
but stand now sadly aged and brown.

Poet’s Notes: It's obvious when a freeze is predicted in the deep south. Yards suddenly become decorated with sheets and blankets to protect vulnerable plants. Unfortunately, tall, graceful Queen Palms are not so easy to cover.
