Review of "When The Trumpet Sounds" by Sean Melican

"When The Trumpet Sounds" by Sean Melican appeared in Daily Science Fiction on April 5, 2013.  "Masses of people wait in a long line in hopes of being some of the few chosen to be passengers aboard an ark spaceship leaving an overburdened earth."

"When the Trumpet Sounds" is a short story but manages to be biblical nevertheless, asking big questions that have no right answers.  Was Noah right to listen to God, to save only his own family and the animals two by two so that a remnant of mankind would survive the Flood and be able to start anew?  Would Noah have been better to refuse God's offer of personal salvation, risking his own death and that of all mankind by his defiance?  Moses later refused God's offer to wipe out all the Jews and make a nation out of him, but then he had Noah's example for a reference.  Mr. Melican forces the reader to ponder such agonizing questions in his beautifully told, heart-wrenching tale.  7 out of 7 rocket-dragons.
