"From the Canal" by Michael Dickman was offered by Poets.org's Poem-A-Day on September 18, 2013. The poet reveals in his notes that he was inspired by the D&R canal in New Jersey (pictured). How this led to the rotting deer that is central to the poem is a mystery to me.
